What Works Scotland is sharing knowledge about ways of enabling communities to make their voice heard, take part in decision-making and generate constructive dialogue from differing viewpoints as part of a global campaign starting tomorrow (16 November 2018).
Speak! 2018 is a world-wide campaign developed by CIVICUS: World Alliance for Citizen Participation as part of the Civic Space Initiative.
Speak! 2018 seeks to raise awareness of challenges to democracy, break down barriers and build global solidarity.
In 2018, the campaign will seek to address the issue of increasing social and political polarisation. From 16-18 November, events around the world will bring people together across lines of division and help to build connection and understanding.
The campaign’s theory of change is that it’s impossible to build true global solidarity if we don’t first seek to understand those from different backgrounds through constructive dialogue.
Taking place from 16-18 November, the campaign coincides with the International Day of Tolerance on Friday 16 November. Events include the Take One Action film festival in Edinburgh and Aberdeen.
A core strand of the What Works Scotland work has been around local democracy, deliberation and dialogue, and involving communities in decision-making.
